BIG GREEN MEET BIG TEN
Dartmouth and Iowa meet for the second time ever on Wednesday afternoon as Big Green captain
Emma Koch returns to her hometown of Iowa City. Iowa won the only other meeting, 61-43, in the 2007 season opener. Dartmouth's captain at the time, Kristen Craft, is an Iowa native. Wisconsin is the only active member Big Ten member Dartmouth has beaten (90-77 on Dec. 30, 1989).
BEACH CLASSIC
Dartmouth was winless in the Beach Classic against a pair of Big West opponents. The Big Green fell to the host, Long Beach State, despite an improved second-half performance. They trailed by 19 at halftime and cut the lead to single digits in the fourth quarter.
Grace Niekelski led the team with 15 points - her first time as Dartmouth's leading scorer this season. On Saturday, a large early deficit was too much to overcome against UC Irvine, despite outscoring the Anteaters 20-10 in the fourth quarter.
Mekkena Boyd scored a team-high 14 and was named to the All-Tournament Team having scored in double figures through both games.
HOMECOMING FOR KOCH
Senior Big Green co-captain
Emma Koch is a native of Iowa City, Iowa and a 2019 graduate of Iowa City West High School. She was a 2017 Class 5A state champion in basketball and enjoyed an illustrious tennis career as well, having won a 2017 state title in doubles. Koch was a three-time All-Conference honoree in basketball at Iowa City West and also played for the Iowa Barnstormers in the AAU circuit. Her sister, Audrey, is currently a sophomore at Providence and has appeared in all 13 games for the Friars this season. In her time at Dartmouth, Emma has appeared in 30 games, including 20 starts, and is currently the team's leading rebounder (and fourth in the Ivy League) with 7.5 per game.
DEFENDING BIG TEN CHAMPIONS
Iowa went 24-8 last season, including a 14-4 mark in the Big Ten, on its way to a share of the regular season championship and later, the Big Ten Tournament crown with a win over Indiana in the final. Entering the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed, the Hawkeyes defeated Illinois State in the first round before seeing their Final Four dreams crushed on their home court at the hands of No. 10 seeded Creighton
HAWKEYES AT A GLANCE
Iowa's offense is among the best in the nation, ranking seventh in scoring with 85.8 points per game. This is partially thanks to an impressive assist/turnover ratio (1.49) that ranks ninth in the country. On the other end, the Hawkeyes rank just 269th out of 350 teams in scoring defense, allowing 69.4 points per game. Iowa's two losses came on the road to Kansas State and to No. 3 UConn at a neutral site (Phil Knight Legacy Tournament in Portland, Oregon).
ALL-AMERICAN CAITLIN CLARK
Junior Caitlin Clark, a 6-0 guard, is the nation's third-leading scorer with 27.6 points per game coming off a historic 2021-22 campaign in which she was named Big Ten Player of the Year, along with a host of All-America honors. Clark became the first Division I player to lead the country in points per game (27.0) and assists per game (8.0) in the same season. She has one triple-double already this season and seven in her career, which is a Big Ten record.
