SATURDAY SHOWDOWN
Dartmouth plays its third road game of the season Saturday afternoon at Monmouth as the Big Green look to avenge last season's home loss.
ALL-TIME VERSUS MONMOUTH
Dartmouth enters its fourth-ever meeting with Monmouth at 1-2 in the all-time series. This is the second game of a home-and-home series as the two sides met last year with Monmouth earning a 55-37 victory in Hanover. The Big Green won the first-ever meeting, 54-50, in 1980 as part of the McGill Tournament in Montreal, Quebec. Monmouth avenged that loss three years later in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 77-58, on Dartmouth's homecourt.
1983 NCAA TOURNAMENT
Dartmouth played Monmouth in a preliminary round of the NCAA Tournament on March 15, 1983 and was upended, 77-58, in Hanover. Dartmouth's Jayne Daigle and Monmouth's Cindy Hook matched one another with 28 points. Daigle was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year that season and was a First Team All-Ivy honoree in each of her four years with the Big Green. Dartmouth won the Ivy League in 1982-83 with an 11-1 record, but the conference had yet to be awarded an automatic bid for its champion.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth trailed by 19 at halftime against UAlbany (after the Great Danes shot 90 percent from the field in the second quarter) before making a 17-0 run to start the third. Suddenly on the ropes, UAlbany regained momentum to lead by nine heading into the fourth quarter, which saw the Great Danes outscore the Big Green, 21-6.
LAST TIME VERSUS MONMOUTH
Dartmouth was hopeful for its first win of the season in last year's meeting when it led a low-scoring game, 20-18, at halftime. Monmouth jumped on top with a strong third quarter, and then outscored the Big Green 17-4 in the fourth to run away with a 55-37 road win. Dartmouth shot a season-low 21.7 percent from the field and it was one of eight times the Big Green were held under 40 points last season. No players scored in double figures as
Katie Douglas led the team with nine. Three Hawks scored in double figures to pace a balanced Monmouth offense.
NIEKELSKI HITTING HER STRIDE
Grace Niekelski has scored in double figures in three consecutive games (11 against Vermont, 11 at Siena and 13 against UAlbany). She's the only Dartmouth player this season with that accomplishment and the first since Annie McKenna, who reached double figures in four straight in the final games of the 2019-20 season.
NEW JERSEY CONNECTION
Four Dartmouth players will return to their home state on Saturday as
Olivia Lawlor,
Camryn Foltz and
Brooke Hollawell are all natives of the Garden State. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are the two most represented states on Dartmouth's roster.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
The Hawks enter Saturday's matchup at 5-4 on the season following Wednesday's road loss to La Salle. They're coming off a 14-16 season that ended in an upset loss to Canisius in the MAAC Tournament. Now a member of the CAA, Monmouth returns last year's leading scorer in Bri Tinsey, who currently averages a team-high 12.8 points and recently dropped 21 against La Salle. A force on the defensive end, Belle Kranbuhl ranks top-25 in the nation in blocks per game (2.00).

The game will be aired on SNY and streamed on FloSports, which requires a paid subscription. Live stats are available through the Dartmouth Athletics website.
LOOKING AHEAD
Dartmouth hosts its annual Education Day on Tuesday, Dec. 13 against Drexel as more than 1,000 local elementary students will fill Leede Arena. It's also the return of former Dartmouth head coach Belle Koclanes, who is in her first season as an assistant coach for Drexel after ending her eight-year tenure at the Big Green's helm in February 2021.
