HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth equestrian team defeated Sacred Heart in their first ever home NCEA meet at Morton Farm on Sunday.
The score was 4-4, but the Big Green took the win after being ahead in the raw score, 679-647.
Sophomore
Rachel Freer picked up the first point for Dartmouth in the fences with a score of 84 riding aboard Bravado.
Chloe Terestchenko followed that up with a second fences point aboard Babalou and earned the highest fence score of the day with an 86.
Claire Azar's 83 was just inched out by Sacred Heart's 84, while
Tori Bergstein's 82 was just behind the Pioneers' score of 85.
In the second half of the day,
Sophie Kylander made her NCEA debut, riding Jilly on the flat. Kylander scored 81 but fell just short of earning the point. Bergstein returned to compete on the flat but her score of 83 was not enough to take to the point from Sacred Heart, giving the Pioneers a 4-2 lead heading into the final two rides.
Terestchenko came out strong with a score of 91, the highest score handed out in the meet, to cut the deficit to one with one ride remaining. Azar, riding aboard Felix, delivered an outstanding ride, earning an 89 and the final point. With the score tied at 4-4, the Big Green took the win with a raw score of 679-647.
Dartmouth is off until the ECAC Championships on March 26-27.
