HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's basketball ended the 2021-22 season on Friday evening, falling to Harvard at Leede Arena, 85-52.
Seniors
Katie Douglas and
Jimena Abejon ended their collegiate careers with eight and four points, respectively.
Mekkena Boyd led the team with 10 points and was perfect in free throws.
Dartmouth (3-23, 2-12) vs. Harvard (13-12, 7-6)
Boyd's 3-pointer 11 seconds into the first quarter set the pace for the game. The teams traded points, with Abejon, Douglas and
Grace Niekelski contributing, and by the first media timeout with three minutes to go, Harvard had an 18-13 advantage. Four straight points for the Crimson gave them some breathing room, but a nice layup from
Doreen Ariik with one second remaining kept the Big Green in contention (24-17).
Harvard turned that lead into a 17-point advantage in the first three minutes of the second, while two good foul shots by Boyd and a basket from Niekelski got scoring started.
Allie Harland hit a 3-pointer with under two minutes to go, but treys kept falling for the visitors, helping them extend their lead at the half (52-26).
The third started better for Dartmouth, and a trey by Douglas in the nick of time to avoid a shot clock violation got a reaction out of everyone. A swisher and 3-pointer from Niekelski moved the rookie into team lead with nine points. Harvard went on an 11-0 run, stopped by a
Carrington Washburn free throw in the final three minutes. Another bucket from Ariik in the final few seconds ended the third on a good note (76-41).
Crimson defense kept the Green quiet at the beginning of the fourth until a nice reverse layup by
Mia Curtis with 7:37 remaining got things moving. The rest of the game was very back-and-forth, with
Victoria Page and Douglas hitting layups before time was out (85-52).
