CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Dartmouth men's tennis opened Ivy League play with a 7-0 loss to No. 15 Harvard on Saturday. The Big Green are now 8-6 and 0-1 in conference action, while the Crimson improved to 10-4 and 1-0.
Â
"This was a tough one today,"
Xander Centenari '13, the John Kenfield and
Chuck Kinyon Head Coach of Men's Tennis, said. "The guys fought hard and we came up short. Credit to Harvard. They played a good match on their home courts and were too good for us today. We have some good positive takeaways and plenty to work on this week to get ready for next weekend."
Â
Harvard victories at No. 1 and 3 doubles put the home team up heading to singles. On court two,
Alex Knox-Jones and
Pierce Widdecombe were narrowly trailing when the match went unfinished.
Â
The Crimson won on all six singles courts to end the match. Though the Big Green did not pick up a point, they also did not back down. At the No. 2 position,
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez took the second set against his opponent, 6-4, while
Andy Ilie forced a second-set tiebreaker on court five.
Â
Next weekend, Dartmouth will play Cornell and Columbia, its last two of eight straight road matches.
