HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth goalkeeper
Costi Christodoulou was named the Ivy League Player of the Week by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon for his performance in the Big Green's season-opening victory over Niagara on September 2.
The sophomore posted an eight-save clean sheet against the NU Purple Eagles on the road to help Dartmouth to a 1-0 win. Christodoulou made timely saves, including a stellar three-stop sequence in the first half to record his first collegiate win and shutout.
"Our team defending was very good this weekend and Costi came up big for us," Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer
Bo Oshoniyi said. "I'm really happy for him to get this much deserved honor! We still have a lot of work to do as a group, but this was a good start to the 2022 season!"
Christodoulou's performance in net helped Dartmouth to its first win in a season-opener since 2010. The South Africa native posted the program's first clean sheet in an opener since 2015.
Dartmouth is in action this Saturday in its home-opener against the LIU Sharks. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet internationally.
Notes: Christodoulou is Dartmouth's first Ivy League Player of the Week since Zach Kalk earned the honor on September 16, 2019. He is also the first Big Green goalkeeper to earn the honor since James Hickok was named Co-Player of the Week on November 7, 2016.
