SATURDAY AND MONDAY IVY LEAGUE HOOPS
Dartmouth looks for its first Ivy League win when it heads to first-place Penn and soon after hosts Harvard for Social Justice Day.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth looked primed for its first Ivy League win of the season after erupting for 27 points in the third quarter to take a 55-53 lead against Brown, but cold shooting marred the Big Green's lowest scoring quarter of the season in the fourth as Dartmouth ended up dropping a 66-58 decision.
Mia Curtis tied a career-high with 20 points and was 4-of-8 from downtown.
BOARDS AGAINST BROWN
Dartmouth dominated the boards in a 66-58 loss to Brown, particularly the offensive glass. The Big Green pulled down 20 rebounds, marking the second game this season with 20 or more. Dartmouth, Columbia and Yale are the only three teams to achieve that feat two or more times this season. Eventually outrebounding the Bears 50-37, Dartmouth achieved its highest total since Feb. 16, 2018 (51 rebounds against Yale in a 64-62 win).
BOYD'S STEALS
Mekkena Boyd was a force on the defensive end to the tune of five steals against Yale and four against Brown. She now ranks fourth in the Ivy League and 36th in the nation with 38 total steals on the season (2.53 per game, which is also fourth in the Ancient Eight). Boyd previously racked up five steals in back-to-back games against Merrimack and Holy Cross in the early weeks of the non-conference slate.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Dartmouth is 43-39 against Penn dating back to 1979 and 37-52 against Harvard, going back to 1976. The Big Green have lost 14 in a row to Penn (last win was Feb. 22, 2014) and haven't seen a win at The Palestra since Feb. 5, 2010. Dartmouth last defeated Harvard, 63-62, in the Ivy League opener on Jan. 11, 2020, but is just 2-8 in the last 10 against the Crimson.
HOMECOMING FOR MEYER
Freshman forward
Clare Meyer, who tied a career-high with 10 points against Brown (all in the third quarter), is a Philadelphia native and played her high school ball at nearby Germantown Friends School. Meyer was a First Team All-League honoree in her sophomore and senior seasons and was tabbed All-State as a senior.
SCOUTING HARVARD
Sophomore Harmoni Turner leads the Crimson in points (18.), assists (3.8) and rebounds (5.8), while also creating havoc on defense, ranking top-15 in the nation in steals per game (3.13). Harvard earned a marquee win in the Ivy League opener against Princeton, snapping the Tigers' 42-game conference win streak.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Princeton became the first-ever Ivy League women's team to earn a spot in the AP preseason poll, coming in at No. 24 in this year's iteration. Last season, the Tigers knocked off No. 6-seeded Kentucky in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament before giving No. 3 Indiana all it could handle in a 56-55 loss.
LOOKING AHEAD
Dartmouth hosts defending Ivy League champion Princeton on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m.
