HANOVER, N.H. —
Kaiyah Corona of the Dartmouth women's basketball program was named to the 20th Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 'So You Want to be a Coach' class, per the organization's announcement on Tuesday.
Corona, one of 62 selectees, will participate in a two-day workshop during the WBCA Convention beginning on March 30 in Dallas. In order to qualify, student-athletes must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year and be nominated by their WBCA-member head coach. A Los Angeles native, Corona has gained coaching experience as a summer basketball camp counselor at Windward School, her alma mater, and has since served as a student assistant coach as a senior at Dartmouth.
"I am honored to have been nominated and selected to participate in this year's 'So You Want To Be a Coach' program," Corona said. "Over the past four years, being a part of the Dartmouth women's basketball program as both a player and a student assistant coach, I have gained immense knowledge about the game that I am so passionate about. I enjoyed coaching my teammates and contributing to the growth of the team over the years."
"Kaiyah has made immense contributions to Dartmouth women's basketball as a student assistant coach," said
Adrienne Shibles, Dartmouth's Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and Family Head Coach. "I am thrilled that she has been chosen to participate in the WBCA's selective program for the next generation of women in our profession!"
The 2023 workshop marks two decades of the program's rich history as student-athletes from across all NCAA divisions gather to practice the skills necessary to secure and succeed in coaching positions. Participants study a wide range of coaching competencies including administrative responsibilities, recruiting, rules education and managing work-life balance. Cy Lippold '19 was selected to the program as a senior, as was Lakin Roland '16, who went on to serve as an assistant coach for the Big Green from 2018 to 2021.
