CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team has several new top 10 times in program history to its credit after a strong showing against Harvard and Cornell on Saturday in Cambridge.
Â
The Big Green fell 158-142 to Harvard and 165-135 to Cornell, but a wide variety of highlights included several outright victories and performances for the record books.
Â
"Our women really stepped up today, recording a bunch of all-time top-10 program performances," said head coach
Milana Socha. "When another team walks out in tech suits, that can be intimidating or used as fire and our women really allowed it to motivate them after a hard week of training.
Â
We had multiple event winners and absolutely demolished the standards we set last year. We've started building and I can't wait to see what we can do at our mid-season invitational."
Â
Julianne Jones, one of many who shined on Saturday, had outright victories in both the 200 breast (2:16.95) and the 200 IM (2:03.08). The sophomore also gave the Big Green a win over Harvard in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.74.
Â
After recording several wins in the season opener at Brown, the talented group of first-years combined for six outright wins.
Carinn Bethea,
Samantha Li and
Jamieson Legh had two each.
Â
Bethea won the 1000 free with a time of 10:01.85 and added another in the 500 free, swimming a 4:53.53 to rank among the top 10 in program history. Li's triumphs came in the 50 free (23.41) and the 100 free (50.58), and both times allow her to crack the program's top 10 for the events. The Big Green went 1-2 over Cornell in the 1000 free thanks to Bethea and
Sydney Rawie, who came in at 10:18.51.
Â
Legh was victorious in the 100 fly with her 54.79 mark, in addition to the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.74. Both showings were good for top five performances in program history.
Â
The 200 medley relay team of Legh,
Kathy Jia,
Lane Murray and Li narrowly missed a program record. Their time of 1:41.83 was well under half a second away from Dartmouth's best ever, which was swam in 2019.
Â
The Big Green will look to build on their momentum at the Miami Invitational, which begins Thursday, Nov. 30 in Oxford, Ohio.
