HANOVER, N.H. — Cold shooting plagued the Dartmouth women's basketball team in a 53-40 loss to Cornell on Friday evening at Leede Arena.
The Big Green struggled to find their rhythm and despite a strong defensive effort, dropped to 2-23 (0-10) on the season, while the Big Red improved to 10-14 (3-8).
Victoria Page led Dartmouth with 13 points, while
Mia Curtis chipped in with 11, going 3-of-6 from deep.
Emma Koch tied a game-high with 10 rebounds, marking three straight contests with double-digit boards for the senior co-captain. Cornell was paced by Kaya Ingram's game-high 18 points on an efficient 6-of-9 showing from the field. Emily Pape equaled Koch with 10 rebounds. The Big Green shot a season-low 24.1 percent from the field in the defensive-themed Ivy League tilt.
A cold start for both teams saw the Big Red hold a 10-2 edge at the end of the first quarter. Dartmouth converted just 1-of-10 from the field with
Clare Meyer's turnaround jumper at the 2:59 mark being the Big Green's only points of the opening quarter.
Mia Curtis knocked down the first 3-pointer of the game for either team with just under four minutes remaining in the second quarter and less than two minutes later, cashed in another to bring Dartmouth within six, 20-14. Cornell answered with Shannon Mulroy's jumper and went into halftime with a 22-14 edge.
Offensive struggles continued for the Big Green in the third, putting up nine points on a 3-of-15 clip from the field. Cornell shot better than 50 percent in the stanza, extending its lead to eventually hold a 37-23 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Needing a sizeable run to put its first conference win within reach, Dartmouth scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, capped by
Mekkena Boyd's pull-up jumper, to cut the lead to single digits before Cornell answered with an Ingram 3-pointer. The Big Green battled back with a Boyd triple, bringing the score to 42-33 with just over five minutes remaining. Ingram once again had the answer and the Big Red's lead didn't dwindle under 10 again.
Dartmouth closes the weekend at home on Saturday, hosting Columbia for a 4 p.m. tip-off. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and an audio broadcast will be available via Dartmouthsports.com.
