NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team was defeated by No. 2/2 Yale Friday night by a score of 6-1. The Big Green were unable to overcome a strong offensive performance by the No. 1 seed in ECAC Hockey, as Yale picked up the season-series sweep at Ingalls Rink.
The Big Green were able to hold Yale scoreless in the first period, but strong second and third frames from the Bulldogs sealed the win for the home team. Dartmouth's lone goal came in the third period off the stick of
Georgia Kraus.
The opening period featured 10 saves from Sullivan, as Dartmouth's defense held strong throughout the first 20 minutes of play. The Big Green only registered two shots on net but pressured the Bulldogs with numerous chances in front of Pia Dukaric's net.
The Big Green and Bulldogs were unsuccessful on one power play opportunity each and the contest remained scoreless after the first. Yale won 10 faceoffs compared to Dartmouth's seven draw wins.
Yale continued to outshoot Dartmouth in the early stages of the second period. The Big Green's best chance in the first minutes of the second came off an individual effort from
CC Bowlby. The senior stole the puck at Dartmouth's blue line, which set her up for a breakaway, while was stymied by Dukaric and Yale's defense.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring with 11:27 left in the period, as a bouncing puck reached the backhand of Anna Bargman. The sophomore shoveled the puck past Sullivan to give her team a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth's deficit increased to two 12:20 into the period, as Vita Poniatovskaia ripped a shot over Sullivan's glove. The Bulldogs struck again with 3:36 left in the period, as a drop pass from Jordan Ray set Bargman up for a chance in front, which was buried to extend Yale's lead to three.
Emma Sietz scored Yale's fourth goal of the evening in the early stages of the third. Sullivan made a stop, but a rebound chance was tapped into the net to give the Bulldog's a four-goal advantage.
The Big Green got on the board with 11:53 remaining in regulation, as Kraus ripped a shot past Dukaric to cut Yale's lead to three. Kraus' third goal of the season broke the shutout and gave Dartmouth life with time to work.
Yale sealed the game with a pair of goals just 2:07 apart. Emma DeCorby and Jordan Ray tacked on goals to give their squad a 6-1 advantage. This score would hold, as the Bulldogs claimed their 12
th home win of the season.
The Big Green fell to 7-21-0 with a 3-18-0 record in ECAC Hockey contests. Yale moved to 25-2-1 with an 18-2-1 conference mark.
Dartmouth closes out the regular season with an Ivy League matchup against the Brown Bears in Providence, R.I. Puck drop is slated for 3 p.m. and a stream is available on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet internationally.
