HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team was defeated by Princeton Saturday afternoon at Thompson Arena. The Big Green opened the scoring in the first but a pair of goals in the second from the Tigers lifted the road team to the win as Princeton claimed the season-series sweep.
Sophomore goaltender
Maggie Emerson stopped 31 of the 33 shots she faced from Princeton, which included 18 saves in the second period. Princeton's netminder, Taylor Hyland made 15 saves on 16 shots en route to the win.
Sophomore forward
Lauren Messier registered her third goal of the season on an unassisted play. Princeton edged out Dartmouth in the faceoff circle, winning 25 draws compared to the Big Green's 24.
Sydney Herrington was effective on the circle, winning five of her six faceoffs.
The Big Green did not take long to get on the board, as Messier cashed in on a turnover just 3:28 into the first period. Her third of the season gave Dartmouth a 1-0 lead, which would stand throughout the rest of the period.
Dartmouth opened the game strong, testing Hyland with 10 shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Princeton recorded six shots on Emerson, which were all turned aside.
Jenna Donohue headed to the penalty box late in the second period, giving Princeton a crucial power play opportunity. Maggie Connors found the back of the net to tie the contest up at one.
Issy Wunder snuck one past Emerson just 34 seconds later to give the Tigers their first lead of the afternoon. Princeton was dominant in the second period, battering Dartmouth with 20 shots on goal to the Big Green's three.
Dartmouth's best opportunity to tie the game came 6:38 into the third period, as Princeton was assessed a five-minute major for boarding. The Big Green were only able to must one shot on goal as the Tigers successfully killed the power play.
Dartmouth fell to 7-18-0 with an 3-15-0 ECAC Hockey conference record. Princeton improved to 12-11-1 and 8-10-0 in conference action.
The Big Green return to Thompson Arena for their final home weekend of the season against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Dartmouth takes on St. Lawrence Friday, February 10 at 3 p.m. before hosting Clarkson the following day at 3 p.m. for Senior Day. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet internationally.
