HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team came up short of its fifth straight win on Sunday at Alexis Boss Tennis Center, falling to No. 60 Penn State by a final score of 4-3.
Â
The Big Green surrendered the doubles point despite a win at the No. 1 position from
Waleed Qadir and
Miles Groom, improving the freshman duo's record to 8-1 on the top court. Penn State clinched the point when Sam Bossem and Loren Byers completed a 6-4 win over
Hikaru Takeda and
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez on Court 3.
Â
The Nittany Lions sealed the win after Stefan Simeunovic edged Takeda in a three-setter at No. 5 singles. With the match already decided, Guerrero Alvarez defeated Charl Morgan at the No. 1 position in a third-set super tiebreaker for his fourth straight win on the top court. Earlier in singles action,
Alex Knox-Jones marched to a two-set win on Court 6 and Groom was awarded a victory as his opponent withdrew.
Â
Dartmouth travels to Belmont on Thursday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. EST. It's the first of four matches on a southern road trip that will also pit the Big Green against Middle Tennessee, Elon and UNC Wilmington.
