HANOVER, N.H. —  The Dartmouth men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to defending Ivy League champion No. 11 Harvard in its conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Alexis Boss Tennis Center.
Â
"We fought hard, but Harvard is tough and credit to them today – they played well and have quite an experienced group," said
Xander Centenari, Dartmouth's John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach. "We'll get right back to work and be ready for the next test on Friday."
Â
The Crimson were able to clinch the doubles point with victories on the top two courts and later sealed the 6-1 triumph in singles with only a Dartmouth win by retirement on Court 5 standing in the way of a sweep.
Â
All completed singles matches came in two-set fashion.
Hikaru Takeda defeated Steven Sun in the opening set at the No. 5 position and later won by opponent retirement in the second set.
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez, who had won six of his last eight matches on the top court entering the day, nearly forced a third set against Harvard's Harris Walker.
Â
The Big Green are set to travel to Brown on Friday, April 7 and will return home on Sunday, April 9 to host Yale.
