HANOVER, N.H. — The College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) today announced its Academic All-District Baseball Teams, and Dartmouth had five players selected for the honor — pitcher
Luke Carpenter, designated hitter
James House, infielder
Elliot Krewson, pitcher
Devin Milberg and infielder
Peter O'Toole. This is the largest group of Big Green baseball players to gain recognition on the Academic All-District Team.
To be included, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), have completed at least one full calendar year and reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The quintet will now go on the ballot for CSC Academic All-America consideration with the first-, second- and third-team honorees being announced on June 7.
Carpenter, a 6-0, 195-pound senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, is a psychology major with a 3.62 GPA and pitched in 13 games this spring for the Big Green, making one start. In his 23.2 innings on the mound, the left-hander was 0-1 with the second-best ERA on the squad (minimum five innings) at 6.85. He held the opposition to a .283 average and just one home run while striking out 20. Carpenter earned a victory as a junior with a two-inning scoreless stint against Siena and ends his career with 30 strikeouts in 39.0 innings.
A 6-2, 190-pound senior from Houston, Texas, House is a government major with a 3.52 GPA. Dartmouth's primary designated hitter for the past two years, the lefty swinger started 27 of the 41 games and finished second on the team with 14 RBIs while swatting six doubles and a pinch-hit home run on the final day of the season. He finished his time with the Big Green with five home runs and 36 RBIs in 172 career at-bats.
Krewson, a 5-10, 175-pound sophomore from Wildwood, Missouri, has yet to declare a major with a 3.51 GPA to his name. Dartmouth's most consistent performer in the 2023 season, splitting time between shortstop and second base, Krewson led the squad in seven offensive categories, including average (.309), hits (46), runs (21), slugging (.403), on-base percentage (.377) and stolen bases (7). He was especially potent down the stretch as he hit .357 over the last half of the season while belting his first career home run at Brown.
Sporting the Big Green's best ERA (minimum five innings) was Milberg, a 6-1, 190-pound junior from New York City with a 3.78 GPA as an economics major. The southpaw tossed 26.0 innings on the year over 11 appearances with five starts, going 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA while striking out 24 and holding opposing batters to a .263 average. His best outing was a five-inning, scoreless start against Yale shortly after joining the rotation, and his strikeout rate of 8.3 per nine innings ranked second on the squad.
O'Toole, a senior government major with a 3.51 GPA, worked his way into the lineup at second base and ended up second on the team in batting while leading the club with 10 doubles. The 6-3, 210-pound native of Saratoga Springs, New York, played in 33 games, starting 30, and hit .269 in the Ancient Eight with a .383 on-base percentage. In 160 career at-bats, O'Toole recorded 11 doubles, drove in 17 runs and belted one home run, that coming in his final collegiate game at Sacred Heart this past weekend.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District Baseball Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
