HANOVER, N.H. — Head volleyball coach
Kevin Maureen Campbell has completed her staff with the hiring of assistant coaches
Sofia Lopez-Acosta and
Sam Marsh.
Â
Lopez-Acosta joins the Big Green after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at Canisius, where she also enjoyed two successful years as a student-athlete. The Golden Griffins posted a winning record in the MAAC during each season with Lopez-Acosta on the sideline, including a 12-6 conference mark in the 2019 campaign that featured a First Team All-MAAC selection in Leah Simmons. Canisius ranked second in the nation in digs per set (20.61) during an abbreviated 2021 spring season and three-time All-Conference honoree Ella Loussia recently ranked fifth in the country in aces per set (0.65) and recorded a program-best 67 aces during the 2022 season.
Â
A 2019 Canisius graduate, Lopez-Acosta was named the 2018 MAAC Libero of the Year after leading the conference in digs per set (5.55), eventually finishing her career with more than 1,000 career digs in just two seasons with the Golden Griffins. The Mexicali, Mexico native previously played two seasons at Arizona Western College. Lopez-Acosta received her bachelor's degree in sport management and master's in sport administration, both from Canisius.
Â
"Sofia is one of the hardest-working young coaches I have had the privilege to meet," Campbell said. "She has had four years of Division I assistant coaching experience and has so much energy to bring to Dartmouth. Sofia is open and curious about learning more about the game and about our profession. I cannot wait to work with Sofia this fall!"
Â
Marsh comes to Hanover after helping the Penn State men's volleyball program garner a pair of EIVA Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament bids, including a semifinal appearance in 2023, during a five-year playing career. He received back-to-back All-EIVA honorable mentions beginning with his junior season, in which he racked up a team-high 66.0 total blocks. Marsh added an AVCA Player of the Week accolade as a senior in 2022 after hitting .782 with 19 kills over two winning efforts against No. 6 Grand Canyon. He hails from London, England and was a member of the English Junior National Team between 2016-18 and earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Penn State in 2022 before receiving his master's in the same field in 2023.
"Sam is coming off a fantastic year at Penn State and will help us immediately in the gym training middles and facilitating practice," Campbell said. "Sam is a lifelong learner and I'm excited to have him as a part of the staff, bringing enthusiasm and passion for the game as he learns our program and systems."

The season begins on Friday, Sept. 1 as the Big Green travel to Baltimore to face Temple and Morgan State.
