LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth rolled to a 77-35 win over Division III VTSU Lyndon on Sunday after falling to Brown in Saturday's Ivy League opener. 77 points marked the Big Green's highest-scoring performance since Feb. 28, 2020 - an 82-79 overtime win over Cornell. 42 points was Dartmouth's largest margin of victory since a 90-42 thrashing of Quinnipiac in the opening game of the 2005-06 season. 11 different players scored against VTSU Lyndon (all that dressed), and eight different players hit 3-pointers. First-years
Cate MacDonald and
Sierra Carson tied for the team lead in the scoring column with nine points, both career-highs.
LOOKING TO CONTINUE 3-POINT SUCCESS
Dartmouth made double-digit 3-pointers for the first time this season, draining 10 against VTSU Lyndon. The 2022-23 team made 10 or more threes in two different games, including a 12-of-26 showing against Penn at The Palestra on Jan. 14, 2023.
DEFENSE STANDING TALL
VTSU Lyndon's 35 points is the second least allowed by any Ivy League team so far this season, behind only Gynedd Mercy's 34 against Penn (Dec. 31, 2023). Dartmouth leads the Ivy League and ranks 16th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 53.5 points per game. That's partially because the Big Green rarely send opponents to the free throw line. They commit the fewest fouls in the nation (9.6 per game). Another catalyst in the Dartmouth defense?
Doreen Ariik's rim-protecting abilities - the junior leads the Ivy League in blocks per game (1.67).
SCOUTING PENN
Penn had won two straight before dropping the Ivy League opener to Columbia on the road. Now without the services of three-time First Team All-Ivy honoree Kayla Padilla, who currently starts for No. 9 USC, the Quakers are led by Stina Almqvist, Mataya Gayle and Jordan Obi, who each average at least 14 points per game. Penn leads the Ivy League in blocks per game (4.3), but ranks second-to-last in scoring defense, allowing just over 66 points per game.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
Coming off an Ivy League championship and an NCAA Tournament victory, and returning 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year Kaitlyn Chen, Princeton is off to an 11-3 start and is currently receiving votes in the AP Poll. A 14-point win over No. 20 Oklahoma is atop the Tigers' resume. Monday's game will feature the Ivy League's top two rebounders in Ellie Mitchell and
Doreen Ariik. Both rank among the top 25 nationally.
UP NEXT
Following the conclusion of the five-game homestand, the Big Green visit Yale on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.
