GAME 16
Dartmouth (6-9, 0-3 Ivy League) vs. Yale (3-13, 0-3 Ivy League)
Date and Time: Saturday, Jan. 20 | 1 p.m.
Location: New Haven, Conn. | Lee Amphitheater
All-Time Series: 53-36
Last Meeting: Feb. 4, 2023 (L, 69-56)
FOUR-GAME ROAD STRETCH STARTS SATURDAY
The Big Green wrapped up a five-game homestand, and now hit the road for four straight and, like Yale, are searching for their first Ivy League victory.
LAST TIME OUT
Having recently fallen to both Penn and Princeton, the Big Green head to New Haven still in search of their first Ivy League win since Feb. 18, 2022. Dartmouth held Penn nearly 20 points under its season average in scoring, but wasn't able to maintain a halftime lead in a 53-39 loss. Five-time defending Ivy League champion Princeton, currently receiving votes in the AP Poll, ran away with a 63-40 win on Monday evening.
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs are off to a 3-13 start (0-3 Ivy League) and most recently suffered an 88-52 road loss to 2023 WNIT runner-up Columbia. Point guard Jenna Clark, an All-Ivy Second Team honoree a season ago, is one of the key returners from the 2022-23 team that finished fifth in the conference, along with Kiley Capstraw, who was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week five times during last year's stellar first-year campaign. Clark leads the Ivy League and ranks 12th nationally in assists per game (6.2).
DEFENSE STILL LEADS THE IVY LEAGUE
The Big Green stayed put atop the Ivy League (and 16th nationally) after the second weekend of conference play, standing at 54.1 points allowed per game, an improvement of more than 15 points per game compared to the 2022-23 season. Princeton became just the fourth team this season to crack 60 points against the Big Green.
IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS FROM BOYD AND ARIIK
Doreen Ariik remains the Ivy League's leader in blocks per game (1.93) after matching her career high with four against Princeton, in addition to three against Penn.
Mekkena Boyd, who tallied 58 steals a season ago for the highest total for any Big Green player since the 2014-15 season, also matched a career high with five steals against Penn. For the week of Jan. 8-Jan. 14, only six players across Division I recorded more steals on a per-game basis than Boyd.
OPPORTUNITIES AT THE LINE ARE KEY
Dartmouth is 6-4 when attempting more free throws than its opponent, but 0-5 when attempting equal or fewer free throws. Good news for the folks in Hanover — the Big Green commit the fewest fouls in the nation (9.8 per game). Only four teams so far this season have attempted double-digit free throws against Dartmouth.
LAST MEETING WITH YALE
The Big Green led at halftime in New Haven, but stumbled down the stretch after Yale's 28-point third-quarter onslaught.
Victoria Page led all scorers with 17 and
Mekkena Boyd followed with 12 as the Big Green knocked down eight 3-pointers (8-for-21), including four in the second quarter.
UP NEXT
The road stretch continues on Saturday, Jan. 27 with a trip to Brown, already the second meeting with the Bears.
