GAME 17
Dartmouth (6-10, 0-4 Ivy League) vs. Brown (12-5, 3-1 Ivy League)
Date and Time: Saturday, Jan. 27 | 3 p.m.
Location: Providence, R.I. | Pizzitola Sports Center
All-Time Series: 61-32
Last Meeting: Jan. 6, 2024 (L, 65-39)
LAST TIME OUT
In a game where neither side ever led by more than six, Dartmouth stood tall on the defensive end in a 48-46 loss to Yale. The Big Green led by four with five minutes remaining, but the Bulldogs hit the necessary shots to escape with the two-point win that came down to the final possession. 48 points marked the fewest allowed to an Ivy League opponent by Dartmouth since Feb. 4, 2022, which coincidentally was also 48 from Yale.
DEFENSE NEARING TOP 10 STATUS
On top of leading the Ivy League in scoring defense, the Big Green rank 11th in the nation allowing just 53.8 points per game to their opponents. Dartmouth finished the 2022-23 season ranked last in the Ivy League and 289th in the country in scoring defense (69.3 points per game).
STILL COMMITTING FEWEST FOULS
The Big Green still commit the fewest fouls per game of any Division I team at just 10 per game. Dartmouth has been atop that category consistently since Nov. 24. Oregon is a fairly distant second at 12.2 fouls per game. In nine of Dartmouth's 16 games so far this season, opponents have netted fewer than five points at the free throw line.
ARIIK'S BLOCKS
Junior forward
Doreen Ariik has led the Ivy League in blocks per game since November and despite not recording any against Yale, she remains atop the rankings heading into the weekend. Ariik has tallied four blocks in two different games this season (at New Hampshire, vs. Princeton).
Clare Meyer showed against Yale that the Big Green may have another rim protector as she came away with three blocks against the Bulldogs.
MINICOZZI LEADS THE WAY
First-year guard
Nina Minicozzi led Dartmouth with 11 points in a low-scoring game at Yale, reaching double figures for the first time since Dec. 21 against Lafayette (16). That late-December performance helped her garner an Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor, making her the first conference weekly award winner for the Big Green since the 2018-19 season.
LOOK FOR MORE FROM MEYER
Clare Meyer was close to a double-double at Yale with nine points and eight rebounds. In two games against Brown, Meyer scored a combined 27 points, including a season-high 17 on the road.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Dartmouth is 61-32 all-time against Brown and has won 10 of the last 16 meetings, but has dropped each of the last four. The Big Green's last win over the Bears came at home on Feb. 5, 2022 thanks in part to
Doreen Ariik's 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. Brown defeated Dartmouth in the Ivy League opener earlier this month, 65-39. March 7, 2020 was the last time the Big Green came away with a win at Pizzitola Sports Center.
LOOKING AHEAD
The road stretch continues as Dartmouth visits Cornell (Friday, Feb. 2) and 2023 WNIT runner-up Columbia (Saturday, Feb. 3).
