FIRST BACK-TO-BACK OF THE SEASON
This weekend, the Big Green play back-to-back games for the first time this season – a challenge they'll face three more times down the road with Ivy League play in full swing. Saturday's conference opener against Brown has been circled on the calendar since the unveiling of the schedule, and a matchup with Division III VTSU Lyndon closes the weekend on Sunday.
MINICOZZI GARNERS WEEKLY AWARD
First-year guard
Nina Minicozzi was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Dec. 26 and became the first Dartmouth player to earn an Ivy League weekly award since Katie Douglas landed Rookie of the Week on Feb. 25, 2019. Minicozzi led the Big Green with 16 points (three shy of matching her career high) against Lafayette and knocked down four of eight attempts from beyond the arc.
ALL-TIME SERIES RECORDS
Dartmouth is 61-31 against Brown and has won 10 of the last 15 meetings, but has dropped each of the last three. The Big Green's last win over the Bears came at home on Feb. 5, 2022 thanks in part to
Doreen Ariik's 11-point, 10-rebound double-double. Sunday marks Dartmouth's first-ever meeting with Division III VTSU Lyndon.
SCOUTING BROWN
Like Dartmouth, Brown's encouraging non-conference performance has been powered by defense. The Bears lead the Ivy League in turnovers forced per game (19.54) and ranks second in the conference behind only the Big Green in scoring defense with 57.3 points allowed per game. Grace Arnolie and Alyssa Moreland are tied atop the Ancient Eight with 2.31 steals per game. A loss to San Francisco snapped Brown's seven-game win streak, which included victories over common opponents like Bryant, New Hampshire and UMass Lowell.
SCOUTING VTSU LYNDON
The Hornets, in action for the first time since Dec. 10, are on a five-game losing streak with four of those defeats coming by double digits. Sage Smith leads the team with 14.9 points per game and Saleena Porter averages a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game.
DARTMOUTH'S LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth trailed by as many as 16 in the second half of its Education Day matchup with Lafayette before making it a one-possession game late in the fourth quarter of a 57-55 loss. In addition to
Nina Minicozzi's team-high 16 points,
Victoria Page chipped in with 15 and was 3-of-6 from deep.
Doreen Ariik grabbed 10 rebounds for her fifth double-digit performance on the glass this season. Ariik also recorded three blocks and continues to lead the Ivy League in blocks per game (1.73).
HOMESTAND CONTINUES
Ivy League matchups with Penn (Saturday, Jan. 13) and defending champion Princeton (Monday, Jan. 15) close the five-game homestand.
