HANOVER, N.H. —
Olivia Austin of the Dartmouth women's basketball team was recognized on Monday with Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors following a stellar week, highlighted by a double-double at Syracuse on Saturday. For the week, Austin posted 37 points and 25 rebounds over three games — with two Big Green wins — good for averages of 12.3 and 8.3 respectively. To go with
Victoria Page winning Player of the Week earlier in December, Dartmouth now has both an Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week in the same season for the first time since 2009-10.
During that 2009-10 season, the last Big Green award winners were Sasha Dosenk (Ivy Player of the Week) on Feb. 22 and Faziah Steen (Ivy Rookie of the Week) on Jan. 18.
Austin reached double-figure points twice last week, shooting 15-of-22 from the floor. Her week was capped off by a career-high 15 points along with 10 rebounds at Syracuse of the ACC on Saturday. It marked her second-career double-double and first on the road. Against Syracuse, she had eight points and four rebounds in the second quarter alone, helping the Big Green trim a once-24 point deficit down to 15. That included a personal 6-0 surge of her own. Austin added five steals, two assists and a block, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor.
Also last week, Austin posted 10 points and eight rebounds at Central Connecticut State while tallying seven points, seven rebounds and a career (and game) high five assists at Lafayette. She helped the Big Green to wins in both of those games, marking the first time they've won back-to-back road games since February of 2019.
For the season, Austin is averaging 8.4 points and 6.9 rebounds.
The Big Green return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 1 when they host Colby-Sawyer at 1 p.m.
