LOS ANGELES, Calif. --Â Dartmouth received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Big Green fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions 7-5 Thursday.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 1-6 while LMU moves to 9-8.
The Lions wasted no time, pushing five runs home in the first inning. They quickly added to their lead in the second inning, headed into the third leading the Big Green 7-0.
The Big Green first put runs on the board in the third inning. Dartmouth got an RBI single from Kolto Freeman, scoring Chris Miller from second base.
Dartmouth kept the Lions off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fourth. Dartmouth brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Tyler Robinson's single, which tightened the Lions lead to 7-3.
In the fifth inning, the Big Green continued to cut into the Lions' lead when an RBI single from Nathan Cmeyla made the score 7-4. They wold continue to chip away in the seventh inning when Freeman continued his strong offensive play, reaching on a single before coming home on an Ethan Brown groundout.
Freeman led the way offensively for the Big Green, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI. Brown provided a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cmeyla also helped out, going 1-for-4 for Dartmouth with an RBI.
Nate Isler started and took the loss on the mound. Tyler Cortland was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going three shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out three. Shanue Bauer and Drew Koenen also pitched in relief. The two combined for 3.1 scoreless innings, only allowing two hits.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow for the second game of the series against the Lions, looking to even the series and get back in the win column. First pitch is set for 9 p.m. EST.
