Erb and Desmond net four goals; Dartmouth gets first league win

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team won its first Ivy League game of the season, beating Columbia 17-7 at Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Big Green saw great performances today including four goals from Catherine Erb and Maja Desmond. Katie Elders completed a hat trick while Katina Christensen and Fiona O'Keeffe netted two. Maya Kendall scored her first goal of the year and Jenna Donohue put one in the back of the cage.

Gisele Todd collected five saves and three groundballs in 45 minutes of play. Tamer Luzi made a save in between the pipes in 15 minutes of play.

With the win, Dartmouth improves to 7-5 overall and 1-4 in the Ivy League. Meanwhile, Columbia falls to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in league play.

The Lions were first to score but O'Keeffe ripped a shot to the top corner of the cage to level the game. Scoring four more goals, the Big Green took the 6-3 lead. At the start of the second quarter, Dartmouth scored three straight goals to take the 9-3 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Columbia was able to find two more scoring opportunities, but Dartmouth's offense powered through to stretch the lead by eight, 13-5. In the last frame, Elders completed her hat trick with back-to-back goals followed by a goal by Kendall. Donohue scored the Big Greens' last goal to seal the 17-7 victory.

As a team, the Big Green outshot Columbia 32-22 and had a 26-15 edge in shots on goal.
