CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Big Green got on the scoreboard first but were unable to find offensive power to match the Crimson, falling 9-2 in the opening game of the series.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 10-18 overall and 5-8 in the Ivy League.
The Big Green got on the scoreboard first, opening the scoring in the second inning. Dartmouth got an RBI single from Jackson Hower, scoring Kolton Freeman from third base.
The Crimson immediately responded, taking a 6-1 lead after the third inning. They added one more in the fourth to lead 7-1.
Dartmouth and Harvard were held off the scoreboard in the fifth, but Dartmouth was able to add one more run to their tally in the sixth when Max Zajec singled to score Freeman again.
Harvard would respond once more, adding two runs in the eighth en route to a 9-2 victory over the Big Green.
Mac Burke got the ball to start for Dartmouth and took the loss, throwing 3.1 innings and giving up seven runs on nine hits. Shane Bauer was a bright spot for the Big Green, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with two walks and one strikeout.
Joseph Chambers and Brady Chappell combined for the final two innings of relief work. Chambers allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts while Chappell allowed only one walk in his 0.2 innings pitched.
The Big Green and Crimson will return to action tomorrow, playing a doubleheader and closing the regular season series. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. with game two set to start roughly 40 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
