Setting the Scene
The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will wrap up its season on Saturday when the Big Green welcome eighth-ranked Cornell to Scully-Fahey Field. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+. It will also be Senior Day, with the Big Green's nine seniors, senior student manager and four fifth-years recognized following the contest.
Â
Last time out, Dartmouth used a 4-1 second-quarter run to take an 8-6 lead, which later reached 9-7 then 10-8. However, Brown scored six straight goals bridging the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters. The Big Green responded six seconds after the Bears' 14th goal, but couldn't get any closer in a 14-11 defeat.
Â
Senior
Nate Davis was the story offensively for Dartmouth, posting a career-high six points via three goals and three assists. It marked Davis' second hat trick of the season (along with the season opener at Bucknell) and fourth of his career. Junior
Colin McGill also had a hat trick, his second straight and sixth this season. He has now scored a goal in 27 straight games, the ninth longest active streak in the nation and third longest in the Ivy League. That mark in the league only trails Michael Long of Cornell (29) and Sam King of Harvard (28).
Â
Fifth-year
Mitchell Myers won 14-of-27 faceoffs at Brown with nine groundballs, becoming Dartmouth men's lacrosse's all-time leader in career groundballs in the process. His ninth gave him 264, breaking Phil Hession's (2012-15) all-time record of 263. Meanwhile, junior
Mason Morel continued to play well in goal, making 15 saves. In Ivy League games, Morel stands third in the league in total saves (76), which includes double-figure saves in the last four.
Â
At Brown, Dartmouth had a stretch of three goals in 39 seconds in the first quarter to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead. It was the second type of stretch for the Big Green in Ivy League play, as they scored three goals in 41 seconds on the extra man against Penn.
Â
Dartmouth will hope to spoil Cornell's bid at a regular season championship and Ivy League top seed, which the Big Red would clinch with a win. The Big Green have lost 11 straight against Cornell all-time and will look for their first win in the series since 2010.
Â
With A Win...
