HANOVER, N.H. - On Thursday, junior defenseman
John Fusco received monthly honors by ECAC Hockey, being named the conference's Defender of the Month for the month of March.
Â
Fusco played an important role for the Big Green through the month of March, both defensively and offensively. The Big Green needed to win the final two games of the regular season against Brown and Yale to clinch an opening round bye in the ECAC Hockey playoffs, a feat that Fusco greatly helped accomplish.
Â
Against Brown, Fusco scored the opening goal of the game before also recording an assist on the second goal to put the Big Green up 2-0 en route to a 5-3 victory over the Bears.
Â
The next day, Fusco tallied two assists, one on a Big Green power play goal that tied the game, and his second on the next Dartmouth goal that gave it the lead and was the game winning goal. Fusco's contributions in the final two games of the regular season helped Dartmouth finish the regular season on a seven-game undefeated streak.
Â
Following a week off after securing the opening round bye, the Big Green hosted Union, collecting the sweep to send them to Lake Placid for championship weekend, the first time since 2016-16. During the quarterfinals, Fusco tallied one assist in the second game of the series while posting a +1 over the two games.
Â
Fusco continued his success and offensive production in the semifinal game against the Cornell Big Red at Lake Placid. He scored two of the Big Green's three goals, including back-to-back goals in the second period to put the Big Green up 3-1.
Â
In the month of March, Fusco recorded three goals and four assists for seven points in five games, bringing his season total to 15 points, five assists and ten goals.
