ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Dartmouth women's rugby team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 36-0 win over Queens on Sunday.
The Big Green opened the scoring early in the match as Sierra Santiago made a quick cut to find the try zone. Abbey Savin picked up the conversion to give the Big Green an early 7-0 lead.
Just under 25 minutes into the match the Big Green took a 12-0 lead as Santiago broke through the left side once again and powered into the try zone.
The Big Green capitalized on a Queens mistake with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. The Royals looked to clear the ball of their try zone but the ball deflected and the Big Green fell on it in the try zone to give Dartmouth a 17-0 lead. Annie Henrich drilled the conversion to put the Big Green ahead 19-0.
Following the halftime break, the Big Green looked to extend their lead. 14 minutes into the second half, following sustained pressure the Big Green powered into the try zone. Following a Henrich conversion, Dartmouth led 26-0.
At the 64:00 mark of the game, the Big Green scored to make it 31-0 but missed the conversion following the try that came along the sideline.
Henrich closed the scoring in the final minutes as the Big Green spread Queens out following a scrum.
It was the first time in program history that Dartmouth and Queens squared off.
The Big Green return to Brophy Field on Saturday, Sept., 28 as Sacred Heart travels to Hanover.
