Men's Tennis Splits Weekend At Home, Defeats Holy Cross

HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's tennis team split their matches on Saturday, falling 4-3 to Indiana while later picking up a 7-0 victory over Holy Cross at Boss Tennis Center.
"Saturday was an absolute battle with a tough Indiana team. Our guys fought their tails off on every single court and proved that the work we have been putting in is starting to stick," Justin DeSanto, the John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach of Men's Tennis, said. "A point or two here or there and that match goes our way. These are the type of situations we need to be in early in our season to prepare us down the stretch. Very proud of our progress and excited for this team going forward."
In the tightly contested match against Indiana, Dartmouth claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. No. 39 ranked Henry Ren and Miles Groom edged Indiana's No. 19 ranked Landau and Van Assendelft in a hard-fought tiebreak, 7-6 (5), which makes the pair a perfect 7-7 on the season so far. Kornel Halmos and Denny Bao earned a 6-2 victory over Yunis and Gelletich. In singles play, the Big Green earned two victories. Groom delivered a key three-set win over Andre, bouncing back after dropping the first set to take the match 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. Yujiro Onuma also prevailed in a back-and-forth battle, defeating Gelletich 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Despite strong efforts across the lineup, Indiana secured four singles wins to narrowly clinch the overall match, sealing the 4-3 decision.
Later in the afternoon, Dartmouth delivered a dominant performance, sweeping Holy Cross 7-0. Dartmouth set the tone early by securing the doubles points with decisive wins on both courts. Malhar Patel and Calvin Wang opened the day with a 6-3 victory over Carlson and Ling, while Bao and Halmos followed with a commanding 6-1 win against Bizzari and Callery.
The Big Green carried the momentum into singles play, earning straight-set victories on four courts. Halmos defeated Callery 6-3, 6-4, and Adrian Treacy cruised past Ling 6-3, 6-0. Wang added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bizzari, while Patel closed out a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Bikkesbakker. Bao capped the sweep with a hard-fought win rallying past Jhaveri in a 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 decision.
