ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Dartmouth baseball began a four-game series against the Navy Midshipmen, Friday, taking the first game of the series, 3-1. This is the first time Dartmouth has defeated Navy since 2008.
With the win, the Big Green move to 3-4 on the season.
Dartmouth wasted no time getting on the board, pushing two runs across in the first inning. Nico Bañez reached on an error to lead off the inning, eventually stealing second to put a runner in scoring position with no outs.
Taer Rodriguez doubled down the first base line, scoring Bañez to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
The Midshipmen were able to record two outs, before
Axel Riess recorded the Big Green's second double of the inning, scoring Rodriguez to make it a 2-0 game.
Navy got one run back in the bottom of the first, knocking a solo home run to make it a one run game.
Each team would put runners on over the next few innings, including the Mids loading the bases in the third on a single and two walks, but the Big Green got out of the jam, keeping it a 2-1 game.
In the fourth, Dartmouth put two runners on and had
Alejandro Puig at third with one out. Puig advanced to third on a wild pitch and tried to steal home on some Midshipmen miscommunication, but Navy responded to get him out.
The Mids put two runners on in their half of the inning, also having runners on second and third, but the Big Green got out of the inning.
Dartmouth was finally able to add insurance runs in the sixth.
Milo Suarez led off the inning with a walk, advancing to second on a
Camden Rush sacrifice bunt. Suarez then moved to third on a wild pitch before Puig grounded out to send him home, making it a 3-1 game.
The Big Green looked for more in the eighth inning, loading the bases on three walks. They forced a pitching change and the Midshipmen got out of the inning, only down by two.
Navy drew a walk in the eighth, but that is the only baserunner they would have for the remainder of the game, as Dartmouth earned the 3-1 victory.
Izzy Parsky made his third start of the season, Friday, allowing just one run on four hits in four innings. Parsky fanned three and dealt four walks.
Trey Sejnoha earned his second win of the season, entering the game in relief in the fifth inning. He allowed just one hit in 3.2 innings, recording five strikeouts.
Mac Burke wrapped the game for the Big Green, pitching the final 1.1 innings. Her recorded his second save of the season, keeping the bases clear and adding two strikeouts.
Dartmouth will be back in action against the Midshipmen Saturday, playing a doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m. Both of Saturday's games will be available to watch on YouTube, or you can follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
