WORCESTER, Mass. – On Sunday, the Dartmouth heavyweight rowing team competed at this year's Eastern Sprints, held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. The Big Green competed in nine total races across heats and grand finals, picking up two grand final podium finishes.

The 3V boat kicked off racing with a first-place overall finish in Heat 3, posting a time of 5:50.08, beating Penn by just over a second. The Big Green went on to place fifth in the grand final (6.11).

Dartmouth's 2V raced next, finishing second overall in their heat with a time of 5:44.45, just 1.3 seconds behind first-place Syracuse. The Big Green finished sixth overall in the grand final later in the afternoon, crossing in 5:46.88.

In the Varsity 8 event, the Big Green got out to a hot start, winning their heat by 1.3 seconds with a time of 5:41.85. In the grand final, Dartmouth finished just off the podium with a fourth-place finish and a time of 5:38.08, just over half a second out of third place.

Dartmouth also raced their 4V, earning second place finishes in both their heat and the grand final. The Big Green posted a 5:54.56 heat time and followed with a 6:00.87 grand final time, falling just two seconds out of first place.

The heavyweight team wrapped Eastern Sprints with a 5V race, earning second overall in the grand final (6:13.84), again finishing behind only the Tigers.

The Big Green will now look towards the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship slated to begin next weekend. Competition will begin in Sacramento, California on Friday, May 29 and follow on both Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.
