Cross Country to Host the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational on Saturday

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's and women's cross country will host the 2026 Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational on Saturday, September 19. The men will start the 8000m race at 11:00 a.m., then the women will start the 6000m race at 11:45 a.m., both races will take place at the Dartmouth Cross Country Course.

The Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational is named after former student-athlete and coach, Maribel Sanchez Souther '96 who passed away in 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Sanchez Souther was a standout on the Dartmouth women's cross country and track & field teams during her four-year career in Hanover. She was a four-time All-American and seven-time Ivy League Heptagonal Champion and cemented herself, as one of the best runners in program history.

Sanchez Souther wanted to share her passion for the sport with her student-athletes and returned to the Big Green as an assistant coach in 2002 and became the head coach of the cross-country team in 2003, until she stepped down in 2010. To honor the incredible legacy of Maribel Sanchez Souther, Dartmouth has hosted a home cross country meet named after her, at its cross-country course, every year since 2017.

Men:
On September 4, the Big Green started their 2026 season at the Friar Invitational, where Connor Foley led Dartmouth to a third-place finish and was the first Big Green runner to cross the finish line, in a time of 18:37.1 in 14^th place. Following Foley, Noe Kemper was the second runner to cross the finish line for Dartmouth, in 15^th place, in a time of 18:38.1.

The third runner to cross the finish line for Dartmouth was Callahan Fielder, who finished in a time of 18:44.1, in 20^th place. Andrew Burr was the fourth runner for the Big Green to finish in a time of 19:02.8, in 38^th place. David Raymond crossed the finish line, fifth for Dartmouth, in a time of 19:12.0, in 44^th place.

At the 2025 Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational, the Big Green finished in third place, as Ashton Bange led Dartmouth across the finish line, in second place, in a time of 24:48.10.

Women:
On September 4, the Big Green started their 2026 season at the Friar Invitational. Dartmouth finished in eighth place, where Emmy Thornton led the Big Green across the finish line, in a time of 14:58.7, in 27^th place. Esme Daplyn finished second for Dartmouth, in a time of 15:03.0, in 32^nd place.

The third Dartmouth runner to cross the finish line was Annamaria Bacchetta, who finished in a time of 15:28.6, in 44^th place. Sophie Spelman was the fourth runner for the Big Green to finish in a time of 15:43.7, in 59^th place. Maura O'Scannlain crossed the finish line, fifth for Dartmouth, in a time of 15:51.0.

At the 2025 Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational, the Big Green finished in second place, with 41 points, as Esme Daplyn was the first Dartmouth runner to cross the finish line, in third place, in a time of 21:49.80.
