Chris Bosco was hired in September 2022 as an assistant coach for the Big Green after serving three years as a volunteer assistant coach at Northeastern University. His responsibilities will include working with the outfielders and hitters.
“I am thrilled to have Chris joining the coaching staff,” Whalen said. “He had an excellent collegiate career as a player and got great experience the past three years working with a terrific program at Northeastern. I have no doubt that he will help make us a better team on the field — working with the hitters and outfielders — and off, and our players are looking forward to working with Chris.”
During Bosco’s tenure at Northeastern, he coached the outfielders and hitters while assisting with all other aspects of the program. The Huskies posted a three-year record of 77-46-1, including a 36-12 mark in 2021, winning the Colonial Athletic Association regular season (20-3) and a conference tournament title to secure a berth in an NCAA Regional. That 2021 team was ranked among the top 10 nationally in eight statistical categories — including ERA and fielding percentage — and produced three picks in the Major League Baseball Draft. Two of those picks were outfielders, most notably the CAA Player of the Year and ABCA All-East First Team selection Jared Dupere. The following year, three more Huskies were selected in the draft while a freshman, outfielder Mike Sirota, had been drafted the previous year and played in 37 games.
Bosco graduated from Roger Williams University in 2019 and was a catcher on the Hawks’ baseball team, serving as captain as a junior and senior. A stellar defensive catcher, he threw out 38 percent of would-be base stealers during his career, twice leading Division III in total runners caught stealing. As a hitter, Bosco still ranks among the program’s top 10 in several offensive categories, including hits, runs scored, triples, total bases, walks and stolen bases.
Bosco was a three-time all-conference selection at Roger Williams, earning the Commonwealth Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year award as well as All-CCC First Team honors. The native of North Andover, Massachusetts, was also chosen to the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings New England All-Region Team and named the 2019 recipient of the Sharon Castelli Award, presented to the Roger Williams student-athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of dedication, leadership and sportsmanship.
Following his collegiate career, Bosco signed a professional contract to compete in the independent CanAm League. He began the 2019 season as a catcher and utility player with the Ottawa Champions before finishing the season with the Santa Fe Fuego of the Pecos League.
