The academics and the people. The best undergraduate education in the United States, together with a student body that is extremely welcoming came together to produce an opportunity I could not pass up, and I am very happy I didn't.
How long have you been rowing and what interested you about rowing?
I started rowing only this freshman fall (12F). When I got to Dartmouth a tripee of mine who rowed in high school told me that she could see some coxswain potential in me because I was small and loud. As the first crew meeting came, I decided I wanted to walk on to the team, and the people I met when I joined were what first drew me in.
Have you won any awards?
I have not won any awards in rowing since I just began, but in academics I was in the Director's List of Academic Recognition in high school.
What is something that would come as a surprise about you to your teammates?
I am a pretty good merengue dancer. I started dancing with my mom when I was small and I've kept doing it for fun.
What non-crew activities are you involved in on campus?
I am an Assistant Teacher with the Department of Spanish and Italian, serving as a drill instructor for Spanish.
What are your future plans?
I plan to double major in Economics and either Government or Geography. From there, I want to go to Law School and then return to my hometown, Panama City, Panama to either work for a law firm or for an NGO.
