A two-time Ivy Champion at Dartmouth, Richardson has engaged in a wide array of non-profit service ventures since his graduation. He spent two years working with Grassroot Soccer, including a nine-month internship in Zambia and a year as the director for America SCORES Denver.
"I am so pleased that Lucas is returning to Hanover as the newest member of our coaching staff," said head coach Jeff Cook at the time of his hiring. "As a student-athlete he was one of the most committed and focused members of our program both on and off the field and I have no doubt that these qualities will shine through in his role as an assistant coach."
Richardson was a member of the Dartmouth men's soccer team from 2003-06, winning Ivy League Championships in 2004 and 2005 and making an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2005. A defender Richardson was named All-Ivy as both a sophomore and junior and was third team all-New England as a junior. He served the Big Green as a team captain his senior season.
He has coaching experience at the youth level including serving as head coach of the Upper Valley Lightning Under 14 Boys for the 2009 season.
For the past year, Richardson was the program director for America SCORES Denver, serving underprivileged youth through an afterschool program that combines soccer and creative writing curriculums for students in third through fifth grades. Richardson was also responsible for the training and management of 25 teacher/coaches in the program.
Prior to his return to his hometown of Denver, Richardson spent two years with Grassroot Soccer, a program co-founded by fellow Dartmouth soccer alum Tommy Clark '92. From Sept. 2007 to May 2008, Richardson was a field intern in Lusaka, Zambia, implementing HIV/AIDS prevention education programs through youth soccer leagues. He also coached a soccer squad while in Zambia.
Upon his return to the United States, Richardson settled in the Upper Valley, serving as soccer and events manager as well as intern manager for Grassroot Soccer's base in Norwich, Vt. He was responsible for all soccer related fundraising projects, recruitment of Africa field interns and outreach to the US soccer community.
Richardson earned his bachelor's degree in government from Dartmouth in 2007 with a concentration in political theory.
