I chose Dartmouth because of the flexibility that it offers. I knew I wanted to study something in the sciences and Dartmouth gave me the opportunity to study engineering without being locked into a specific engineering school. The D-plan also allows me to study abroad and take a term off while still being able to sail both the fall and spring events.
How long have you been sailing and what got you interested in sailing?
I've been sailing competitively for 11 years. My parents bought me an Opti when I was 8 and my dad took me sailing before my yacht club's summer program began. I've been hooked ever since.
Have you won any academic or sailing awards recently?
Last summer, I won the Jr. World Championship in a Lightning (type of boat) as the middle crew.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
I play the saxophone.
What are your future plans, if any
I plan to major in engineering at Dartmouth and possibly go to graduate school at some point. I'd like to design/build boats and sails for a living if at all possible and I'm planning on running an Olympic campaign for sailing, though I'm not sure in which boat.
