HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's soccer team (9-5-2, 6-0-1) got two first-half goals from Lea Kiefer and posted a convincing 5-0 victory over Cornell on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field The win gives the Big Green sole possession of the Ivy League title and an undefeated record against League opponents. Dartmouth will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament and will find out its first round opponent on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The win also extends the Big Green's unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Kiefer's first goal came in the 20th minute on a header off the rebound of Megan Wijas' shot. The senior forward's second goal came less than three minutes later when she turned on a defender and blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the net. The two goals boost Kiefer's season total to 12, which ties her for fourth in the Dartmouth single-season record book.
The Big Green put the game away early in the second period. Sophomore Jennie Tonneson tallied at 49:15 off a pass from freshman Nicole Cameli and then senior back Emily Odegard, who had taken only two shots all season, scored her first career goal when she drove a shot from the top of the box at 52:15. Junior Ashley Carruth closed out the scoring at 63:23.
Goalies Anne Marbarger and Julia Shields each played 45 minutes and combined for the shutout which was Dartmouth's fourth shutout in seven Ivy matches. Shields recorded two saves and Cornell's Katie Thomas stopped three shots. All six seniors saw significant playing time for the Big Green and Coach Ben Landis was able to go to his bench and use 23 players in the win.
