HANOVER, N.H. -- In an evenly played match on Sunday afternoon at Chase Field, the Dartmouth women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Yale. The loss drops the Big Green to 4-5-2 overall and 1-2 in the Ivy League, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-4 and 1-2 in the conference.
"I'm proud of our effort. We left it all on the field," said head coach Ben Landis. "We had three good chances in the last 20 minutes, but the ball didn't bounce our way."
Yale's goal came in the 55th minute when Mimi Macauley converted off a corner kick.
"I give credit to Yale," added Landis. "They defended well as a team and even after they scored, they kept attacking."
After the Yale tally, the Big Green switched to a more attacking style of play to put additional pressure on the Yale defense. With 18:21 left in the game, junior midfielder Megan Wijas (Southborough, Mass.) blasted a shot to the left corner, but Yale goalkeeper Sarah Walker made a diving save. Less than three minutes later, junior striker Christina Ferraris (Burlington, Conn.) had a scoring opportunity from in close, but Walker stonewalled the Big Green again. With just 2:21 left, sophomore midfielder Emily Tracy (Belfair, Wash.) lofted a shot, but again the Big Green failed to convert. Ferraris tried to provide another opportunity with just 26 seconds left. After she crossed the ball, there was a scramble in front of the net, but Yale was able to clear it.
