HANOVER, N.H. -- Elise Morrison exploded for 29 points, but it wasn't enough as the Dartmouth women's basketball team (1-3) dropped a 72-64 decision to Hartford (3-0) on Tuesday night at Leede Arena. The sophomore center added 10 rebounds and four blocks as she dominated the paint. Ashley Taylor and Angie Soriaga added 12 points apiece for the Big Green. Ikea Witt poured in 19 points to lead four Hawks in double figures.
Dartmouth jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, its biggest advantage of the game, before Hartford tied the score at 19-19 after a three-pointer by Danielle Wexler. Witt closed the half with four free throws and the Hawks held a slim 32-27 advantage at the intermission.
Hartford extended the lead to eight points at 40-32 after a jumper by Jess Clark at 15:31, but Dartmouth responded with a 13-4 run to grab a 45-44 lead with 11:27 remaining in the game. Witt then took control of the game for Hartford scoring nine of her team's next 11 points to give the Hawks a five-point lead with 6:06 left. A jumper by Morrison trimmed the lead to one at 57-56 with 2:17 remaining. Hartford, however, converted 15 consecutive free throws down the stretch and pulled away for the win.
Dartmouth will return to action on Sunday, December 12, when it travels to Manhattan. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
