HANOVER, N.H. -- In men's heavyweight rowing on Saturday, the Syracuse varsity eight bested Dartmouth, breaking a 15-year Big Green stranglehold on the Packard Cup.
In the 2,000 meter race on the Connecticut River, the Orange posted a time of 5:46.3 with Dartmouth back in 6:10.6. Syracuse last won the Packard Cup in 1990.
The Orange also claimed the other two races, winning both the second varsity eight and the freshman eight, which was determined by a split second.
Dartmouth will compete at the Eastern Sprints regatta on Sunday, May 21.
