Dartmouth has Three Tryout for U-22 National Team
HANOVER, N.H. -- Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.), Sarah Newnam (Lexington, Ky.), Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.), three members of the Dartmouth women's ice hockey team have been selected to participate in the 2006 U.S. National Women's Hockey Festival.
Kennedy will enter her second season playing with the Big Green this winter. As a freshman she led the team in points racking up eight goals and 16 assits in 29 contests. She was also named ECACHL Women's Rookie of the Week on one occasion over last years season. This is Kennedy's first experience playing at the National level.
Along with Kennedy, Newnam is a sophomore defensive stand-out on the Big Green squad. In her first year at the collegiate level, Newnam tallied nine points in all 29 games and finished second in points by Dartmouth defenders.
Parsons, one of the six freshman joining the Dartmouth team, will be used to playing at the International level as she competed as a member of the U.S. Women's National Team helping her country earn a bronze medal at the XX Winter Games in Turin, Italy. At the games she led her team in points, scoring four goals and assisting on three.
The women are three-of-nine Ivy League players chosen to tryout for the National team. The women will meet in Lake Placid, N.Y., for a six day tryout process to take place at the Herb Brooks Arena. The tryouts will consist of 40 of the top women's hockey players under the age of 22, competing for a spot on a 20 name roster who will play a three-game series against team Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, August 24-27.
Dartmouth women's head coach, Mark Hudak, will serve as a festival coach for the team.
