BURLINGTON, V.T. – A late surge of runs by the Catamounts, gave the Dartmouth baseball team its 23^rd loss of the season, as the Big Green fell to Vermont, 11-5, in a non-league game Tuesday afternoon.

After a scoreless first inning, the Catamounts took the lead in the bottom of the second. A two-out triple by Nick Gallipani brought two runs in, giving the home team the first lead of the game.

The Big Green had a solid fourth inning, scoring three runs to take the lead, 3-2. The inning began with Nick Santomauro (North Caldwell, N.J.) getting hit by a pitch, giving Dartmouth just its third base runner of the day. Raymond Allen (Longwood, Fla.) and Brett Gardner (Bellevue, Wash.) followed with singles, producing the early runs.

The bottom of the fifth, however, began the Catamounts onslaught. After being relieved of his starting duties, Ben Murray (Grants Pass, Ore.) gave the mound over to fellow freshman Zach Cheaney (Houston, Texas). The big lefty only made it two-thirds of an inning, as he gave up two runs on three hits, including an error.

Miller Aldrich (College Station, Texas) came in to try his luck against the powerful Catamounts, but he too struggled and gave up four runs.

Bobby Steinsdoerfer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Andrew Nacario (Carlsbad, Calif.) came in and combined for three innings of work, dealing two strike outs, while giving up two runs on four hits. This outing was the first time Nacario had been put on the mound in his collegiate career.

The Big Green tried to get something working in the eighth inning as four hits led to two runs. But the two runs were all they could post, as they dropped their third straight game by the final score of 11-5.

The team is scheduled to have its first home game of the season tomorrow, as they play host to Brown University in a crucial divisional doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
