HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) has been chosen as the 123rd captain of the Dartmouth men's hockey team. Classmates J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) and Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) along with sophomore Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, B.C.) have been named as assistant captains.
Johnson follows in his father Kevin '77 and his uncle Dana's '73 footsteps as the elder Johnson's were both key members of the Big Green in the mid-to-late 70s. Kevin was Dartmouth's leading scorer in the 1976-77 season while Dana was captain of the 1972-73 squad. The younger Johnson was Dartmouth's third-leading scorer last season with 30 points and he is just 10 away from 100. Johnson continues to be one of Dartmouth's top forwards as he played in all 33 games last season and has seen time in 101 over past three years.
Wyman was a catalyst for the squad last season playing in all 33 contests. As a sophomore Wyman ended his year with a broken ankle so the forward looked ahead to a junior season at full strength. He finished the season with 24 points, sixth on the team and has 55 for his career.
Devine has been the mainstay between the pipes for the Big Green. He played in all but one game last season, breaking a streak of 38 games started. Devine has etched his name in the record books as he is sixth in overall goaltending, eighth in saves, third in wins and second in save percentage.
Pritchard played in every game last season socring 18 points. He potted a career-high four points on Jan. 19 in a win over Canisius. Pritchard was a key faceoff guy for the Big Green as he won 206 of the 357 taken.
Dartmouth will begin the 2007-08 season traveling to the University of Vermont on Oct. 28 for a 2:00 faceoff.
