ALBANY, N.Y. ? The ECAC Hockey League announced its All-Academic Teams today, recognizing 153 student athletes from its 12 men's programs. Eleven Dartmouth players were named, with goalie
Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) a three-time honoree.
Joining Devine on the All-Academic Team are teammates and repeat honorees
Will Boardman (Brattleboro, Vt.),
Chris Johnson (Duluth, Minn.),
Dan Goulding (Toronto, Ont.), and
Joe Gaudet (Etna, N.H.). Making their first appearance on the list are captain
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.),
Peter Boldt (Greenwich, Conn.),
Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.),
Dan Markowitz (Jericho, N.Y.),
Evan Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.), and
Jonathan Wolter (Branford, Conn.).
Senior Johnson also was named first-team All-Ivy and was the team's leading scorer with a career-high 35 points. Stephens earned second-team honors and finished the season as the ECAC's top scoring defenseman. Gaudet also notched a career-high in points with 15 this year, playing in 31 of Dartmouth's 32 games. Boardman, a dual-sport athlete, plays on both the men's hockey and men's lacrosse squads, saw time in 15 games this season. Goulding made two appearances in net in 2007-2008 as rookie forward Fleming had 11 points in his first year at Dartmouth, with six goals and five assists.With nine assists and one goal, Boldt played in 31 games on the blue line.Markowitz played in 25 games for the Green, scoring two goals, while
Chris Johnson played in seven games this season.
Dartmouth ended its season last weekend in the first round of the ECAC playoffs with a loss to Cornell. The Big Green ended its season with a 12-16-4 overall record.
81 student-athletes in all were recognized for the second time and 31 distinguished themselves as three-time honorees. Brown saw the most players named to the list with 21, followed by Rensselaer with 18. Colgate and Harvard tied for third with 15 apiece.
Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters. This year is the second year that freshmen have been eligible for inclusion on the list.
