? The Dartmouth women's hockey team has announced its 2007-08 Team Awards and
sophomore Sarah Parsons (Dover,
Mass.) was selected as the team's
Most Valuable Player.
Parsons was third on the team in total points with 34, but
it was her play down the sketch that propelled the Big Green into the NCAA
Tournament. She finished the season on a career-long 12-game point streak with
eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 12 games. Parsons also was tied for
the team lead in shorthanded goals with two and she recorded three power play
goals and two game-winning goals for Dartmouth.
She was an ECAC Hockey Third Team selection and made second team All-Ivy.
Freshman Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.)
was named the team's Rookie of the Year following a brilliant first season with
11 goals and six assists for 17 points. Her 11 goals was good enough for fifth
on the team and she was fourth in goals on the man advantage with four.
Joining Parsons and Trunzo as the Offensive Most Valuable Player
was sophomore Jenna Cunningham (Medicine
Hat, Atla.). Cunningham, an ECAC Hockey Second Team selection,
led the Big Green in most offensive categories all season long with 37 points
in just 17 games. She ended up second in assists and points, but led Dartmouth in goals and
power play tallies with 17 and six, respectively.
The Big Green Defensive Most Valuable Player went to junior
netminder Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.). Clemis finished the season with a 13-8-6
mark with a 2.56 goals against average as she competed in 27 games for the Big
Green, including all four postseason contests. She is now fourth all-time in
total wins with 41. Clemis ended the season very strong, making 30-plus saves
in all four postseason games, including 40 saves in the NCAA Quarterfinal
game against Harvard.
Sophomore goaltender Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) was voted the team's Most
Improved Player. Lacina got six starts this season and took advantage of those
opportunities as she went 5-1-0 with three shutouts. She concluded the season
with a 1.11 goals against average. Lacina posted a career-high 39 saves in a
losing effort to No. 1 Harvard on Jan. 27 and earned her first collegiate win
an 8-1 victory over Quinnipiac on Nov. 3.
The next award went to senior Carrie Thompson (Shorewood, Minn.)
who had a breakout final season with 12 goals and an assist for 13 points. Her teammates
voted as the Unsung Hero for the Big Green. Thompson was fourth on the team in
goals and posted a team-leading four game-winners. She was also one of two
skaters for Dartmouth
to register a hat trick this season as she joined Cunningham with three goals,
all of which came in the second period, in a 6-0 win over Quinnipiac on Feb. 15.
Dartmouth
finished the season 18-9-6, including a 13-5-4 mark in conference play. The Big
Green made its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and got into the ECAC
Hockey Tournament for the 17th-straight season.
