HANOVER, N.H. ? The eighth-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team will be making its 12th appearance in the ECAC Hockey semifinals as the third-seeded Big Green takes on the second-seeded Saints of St. Lawrence this Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Bright Center at Harvard.
Once again B2 Networks will be broadcasting all ECAC Hockey games this weekend, with the No. 4 Clarkson vs. Harvard matchup at 1 p.m., followed by the No. 3 Dartmouth vs. No. 2 St. Lawrence contest at 4 p.m. To view each game click here.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth swept Colgate in the first round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament for the fourth time in the last seven years, outscoring the Raiders 8-5 in the two games. Sophomore Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) led the Big Green with four points, including two goals and two assists. She had the game-winner in game one with 24 seconds left to push Dartmouth past Colgate 4-3. In game two, the Big Green jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two periods and cruised to a 4-2 win.
25TH CHAMPIONSHIP
ECAC Hockey is celebrating its 25th year of hosting a women's hockey championship. The first ECAC Championship was in 1984 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. Providence won the first championship with a 1-0 overtime win against New Hampshire. Since then, the ECAC has crowned six different champions with Providence winning the most with six championships. Dartmouth, Harvard or Brown has won the last 10 titles.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence enters the semifinals on a seven-game winning streak after a first round sweep of Yale, which took two tough overtime wins to advance to this evening's game. During the streak, the Saints have outscored their opponents 37-13.
St. Lawrence is an offensive machine as the Saints lead ECAC Hockey and is tied for third in the nation with 4.06 goals per game. St. Lawrence has 15 players with at least 10 points and six with 14 or more goals. Senior Sabrina Harbec leads the way with 48 points, which is second in the league. She has 16 goals and a team-high 32 assists. Sophomore Tara Akstull has posted 14 goals and 26 helpers for 40 points, which is second on the team. Junior Allison Domencio uses the man advantage to make her impact as she is second in the league and leads the Saints with 11 this season. Juniors Marianna Locke and Carson Duggan lead the Saints with 20 goals apiece, including nine game-winners between the two.
On the power play, the Saints are second in the conference with a 22.9 percent success rate. They lead the conference in total power play goals with 48 in 210 chances. St. Lawrence is in the middle of the pack when it comes to the penalty kill as the Saints have given up 28 power play goals. They are second in the league with 206 penalties this season.
In goal, senior Meaghan Guckian has appeared in 31 games for St. Lawrence this year with a 22-8-1 mark, a 2.05 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. Guckian has plenty of experience as she has played in 104 career games with a 73-23-8 record.
SERIES HISTORY
Dartmouth and St. Lawrence have hooked up 44 times since the first meeting in 1985. The Big Green holds a slight advantage with a 25-17-2 mark against the Saints. The two teams have met five times in the postseason, including two times in the ECAC Tournament. The teams are an even 1-1 in the tournament, while St. Lawrence has a 4-1 advantage in all postseason play.
