HANOVER, N.H. — Six members of the Dartmouth women's soccer team have earned All-Ivy League recognition, headlined by three senior midfielders named to the All-Ivy first team.
Senior midfielders Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.), Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) were all named to the All-Ivy first team after working as Dartmouth's engine room all season. Additionally, three players earned All-Ivy status for the first time as junior back Melisa Krnjaic (Washington, D.C.), sophomore forward Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) and senior forward Becky Poskin (Leawood, Kan.) were all named honorable mention. Honorable mention players must receive at least one first team vote or two second team votes.
Dartmouth, which posted a 10-7 overall mark and a 4-3 Ivy record, good for third place, led the league with six players honored on the first, second and honorable mention squads. Dartmouth was the only team to have three players on the first team and it marks the first time since 2003 that the Big Green has produced a trio of first team All-Ivy teammates.
Ali Hubbard's recognition is the culmination of an impressive
four-year career as Dartmouth's primary defensive midfielder, starting
all four seasons. She previously earned second team All-Ivy honors in
2007 and honorable mention accolades in 2008. A hard-nosed player, she
started 16 of 17 games this season and her efforts including a goal and
three assists, including the game-winner in overtime against Princeton.
Her efforts helped the team to a 1.15 goals against average and held
opponents to just 8.8 shots per game.
A co-captain, Kelsey Quick made the leap to the All-Ivy first team after picking up honorable mention last fall. The speedy senior got stronger as the season went on, finishing with three goals and a team-best six assists, good for 12 points. Two of her goals and two assists came in Ivy play, including winners over Cornell and Brown. Quick's outside runs often set up the offensive action for the Big Green and she also assisted on game-winning goals against Columbia and #12 West Virginia. She graduates with 28 career points including 14 assists which ranks seventh in Dartmouth history.
Myra Sack is no stranger to these accolades, having been named
All-Ivy in each of her four seasons and first team All-Ivy as a junior.
This fall, she was one of just two players to start all 17 games and
played more minutes (1,475) than any other field player on the squad.
Sack, a co-captain, ranked third on the team in scoring with 10 points
coming on three goals and four assists including the game-winning-goal
against Vermont. The offensive-defensive link, Sack was the central
player in the Big Green's midfield scheme. She ends her Dartmouth
career with 25 points including 13 assists, ranking 10th all-time
A starter since her freshman year, Melisa Krnjaic makes her All-Ivy debut this fall after starting 15 of 16 games played as a key part of Dartmouth's backline. Defensively, she helped stifle opponents to just 8.8 shots per game and the defense to a 1.15 goals against average. Krnjaic is also an offensive threat, recording three assists this season including the helper on the winner over Princeton.
Aly O'Dea had a breakout sophomore year, leading the Big Green in scoring with an impressive 19 points on nine goals and one assist. She burst onto the scene after scoring two goals as a rookie and started 14 of 17 games this fall. Her nine goals were third-best in the Ivy League and four of her goals came in Ivy play, including a goal and an assist against Brown.
Becky Poskin closes out her five-year tenure in Hanover with her first All-Ivy nod. She returned to Hanover for a fifth year and second as a co-captain after receiving a medical redshirt for her junior year. Poskin talled seven points with three goals and an assist this fall, including the game-winner over Seton Hall and a goal against Cornell in her last collegiate game. She graduates with 22 career points including nine goals.
The 2009 Dartmouth women's soccer team reached the 10-win mark for the 12th time in program history and third time in the last five years, going 10-7 overall. The Big Green graduates six seniors and five starters from this year's squad.
