HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team welcomes 2010 by hosting the Ledyard National Bank Classic. The Big Green rolls out the welcome mat to Northeastern, UMass Lowell and Holy Cross at Thompson Arena for games on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. On Saturday, UML and Holy Cross square off at 4:00 with the Big Green taking on Northeastern at 7:00. Game times for Sunday are also 4:00 and 7:00. Tickets are still available and are $12 and $6 and can be purchased at the Dartmouth ticket office or at the Thompson Arena box office.
THIS WEEKEND'S GAMES
The Dartmouth men's hockey team hosts its annual tournament, the Ledyard National Bank Tournament. Northeastern, UMass Lowell and Holy Cross have all made the trek to Hanover as UML and Holy Cross will matchup in the first game while Dartmouth and Northeastern will clash in the nightcap.
DARTMOUTH-NORTHEASTERN SERIES HISTORY
Dartmouth and Northeastern have been meeting since a 7-0 Big Green win on Dec. 21, 1935. The last time these two met was in 2000 when the Huskies took a 2-1 win in Boston and then won 3-2 in Thompson Arena the next year. Northeastern is on a four-game win streak over the Big Green as Dartmouth has not won a game between the two since a 5-4 victory on Dec. 30, 1992.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northestern comes into Thompson Arena with a 6-8-1 overall record, 4-7-1 in Hockey East play. The Huskies have one of its last four games with a 2-1 win over Merrimack.
Both ends of the spectrum lead the team in scoring as senior Kyle Kraemer and freshman Garrett Vermeersch each have 10 points. Junior Wade MacLeod is not far behind with nine points. Kraemer is also the leading scorer in league games.
In net freshmen Chris Rawlings has carried the bulk of the load, appearing in 13 games. He currently has a .908 save percentage and a 3.12 goals against average. Currently Rawlings leads the team with five games won.
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
UMass Lowell makes its way to Hanover with a 10-6-1 record, 5-4-1 in Hockey East. The River Hawks split its last two games, taking a 4-1 win over Princeton before dropping a 3-2 game to the Tigers the next night. UMass Lowell began its season winning eight of its first 11 games. The River Hawks currently have seven players scoring in double-figures as senior Nick Schaus is the team's leading scorer with 18 points. Sophomore David Vallorani and junior Scott Campbell are right behind with 15 apiece. A pair of seniors, Kory Falite and Paul Worthington have chipped in 13 points, respectively as classmate and captain Ben Holmstrom along with Chris Auger have each scored 11.
In net time has been split between two seniors, Carter Hutton and Nevin Hamilton. Hutton has played in nine games while Hamilton has seen time in eight. Hutton has the best GAA (2.12) and save percentage (.927) but both have won the same amount of games with five.
DARTMOUTH-LOWELL SERIES HISTORY
Dartmouth and UMass Lowell have had a short series as the two have only met seven times beginning with a 4-3 River Hawks win on Jan. 20, 1990. The last time these two met was in Lowell on Dec. 11, 2005 when the home team was victorious, 3-2. The last time Dartmouth won a contest between the two was a 10-2 victory in 2002. That game was the championship game of the Big Green's Ledyard National Bank Classic.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross opens up tournament play with a 4-9-4 overall record, a 4-6-3 record in Atlantic Hockey. The Crusaders have tied two of their last four contests with a 1-1 tie against RIT and Quinnipiac.
Two juniors are the leading scorers for the Crusaders as Everett Sheen and Jordan Cyr have 13 and 11 points, respectively. Senior Brodie Sheahan and freshman Rob Linsmayer are right behind with eight points each.
In net freshman Thomas Tysowsky has been the leading goaltender for Holy Cross. He has played in 15 games and has won all four games for the Crusaders. Tysowsky currently has a 2.20 GAA and a .913 save percentage.
DARTMOUTH-HOLY CROSS SERIES HISTORY
Dartmouth and Holy Cross haven't played very many games but the series between the two dates back to 1986. Holy Cross won the first matchup, 5-2 between the two schools but the Big Green has won three of the last four. The most recent meeting between the two came when Dartmouth won 4-0 at home on Jan. 16, 2007.
NEXT UP
Dartmouth begins its full slate of ECAC Hockey games with a home weekend against Brown and Yale. The Big Green takes on the Bears on Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:00 and then the Bulldogs on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 4:00.
LAST GAME
Dartmouth trailed 2-0 against Vermont on Sunday, De. 19. The Big Green tallied late goals in both the first and second periods to tie the game up. UVM responded with two goals less than 2:00 apart in the final period to go up again. Dartmouth was able to get one more back but lost, 4-2 to its twin-state rival.
Rookie Mark Goggin recorded his first multiple-point game with two goals.

DARTMOUTH TOURNEY HISTORY
Dartmouth has made it to the championship game of its annual tournament 15 times in the 20 years of playing the games. The Big Green has met up with both Northeastern and UMass Lowell in the final game. The Huskies were victorious over the Big Green, 3-2 in 1988 while Dartmouth defeated Lowell, 10-2 in 200.
A LOOK BACK AT THE 2008-09 LEDYARD TOURNEY
Dartmouth used two shorthanded goals by Kyle Reeds to take a first round 5-4 victory over Army on the opening day of the 2008-09 Ledyard National Bank Classic. The next night against Bermidji State the Big Green spread out four goals over the three periods for a 4-2 victory in the championship. Connor Shields and Connor Goggin were named to the All-Tournament while Jody O'Neill was named the goaltender of the tourney. Kyle Reeds was named MVP.
TOP SCORERS
Juniors Scott Fleming and Adam Estoclet have become the Big Green's top point getters as each has 11 and 10 points, respectively. Fleming is the top goal scorer with seven while Estoclet is the top play maker with eight assists.
A BREAK-OUT GAME
Freshman Mark Goggin recorded his first multiple-point game of the season with two goals against Vermont on De. 19.
MATTER OF TIME
Rob Smith had the first goal of the season at 2:43 of the first period on Oct. 30. Kyle Reeds lit the lamp just 1:13 into the contest against Sacred Heart for the earliest goal scored this season. The latest goal was Josh Gillams strike at 18:06 in the third on Nov. 29 against Harvard.
MATTER OF TIME, TAKE TWO
Mark Goggin tallied a goal with two seconds on the clock in the first period against Vermont on Dec. 19. Teammate Evan Stephens continued the excitement, scoring his second goal of the season with 11 ticks on the clock in the second period against the 'Cats.
JUST ONE MORE LINE
Dartmouth's top line seems to have worked itself out as freshman Dustin Walsh and senior Joe Gaudet have anchored sophomore center Doug Jones on the top line. But the Big Green's second line seems to have also come into focus as juniors Scott Fleming, Adam Estoclet and Matt Reber have had a hand in scoring as the trio has accumulated 17 total points.
STREAKING
Dartmouth currently has one player on a scoring streak. Matt Reber has potted five points in the last four games with a multiple-point contest coming against Providence to start the streak off..
SHOOTING OUT THE LIGHTS
Dartmouth has outshot all but five of its opponents already this season with 40 or more shots coming against Harvard (twice), Colgate and St. Lawrence.
OFFENSIVE DEFENSE
Defenseman Evan Stephens has been Dartmouth's top scoring blueliner for the past two seasons. Stephens has already racked up six points this season while Peter Boldt has five points, Joe Stesjkal with two and Jim Gaudet with one.
NICE TO MEET YOU
Dustin Walsh is the only freshman to have played in all 11 games this season. Several of his classmates have seen some considerable time as well as Mark Goggin has played in eight games, Alex Goodship in six, Jason Bourgea in nine and Mike Keenan in seven.
THE SECOND'S THE BEST
Dartmouth has enjoyed playing the second period this season as the Big Green has scored most of its points in that frame. Dartmouth has potted 29 of its 70 points in the second period alone.
INJURY UPDATE
Defenseman Mike Keenan has been lost for the season due to an injury he suffered in practice prior to the Providence game on Nov. 27.
IT'S BEEN AWHILE
The last time the Big Green went 3-7 early in the season was 1984-85.
ON THE OTHER HAND
Despite its slow starts the last 13 seasons, Dartmouth has gone 114-113-26 after January 1 during Bob Gaudet's tenure. During that span the Big Green has won the ECAC Regular Season title and an Ivy League title.
WELCOME BACK
With the first goal of the game against Harvard, senior Rob Smith was officially welcomed back. Smith suffered a season-ending injury in 2008-09, just two games into the year.
COLLEGIATE FIRSTS
Rookies Dustin Walsh and Mark Goggin each collected their first collegiate goals against Colgate on Nov. 7. Walsh scored first in the second period before Goggin's tally tied the game in that same frame. Alex Goodship recorded his first collegiate point with an assist in a win over Harvard on Nov. 29.
NOT SPECIAL YET
The offensive side of the special teams game has not been favorable for Dartmouth yet this season. The Big Green has eight power play goals in 47 attempts. On the other hand the Big Green has been able to kill 35 of its opponents 46 power play attempts for a .761 percent. Dartmouth has held three if its opponents (Princeton, Clarkson, Providence) scoreless on the extra-man attempt.
BIG GREEN BROTHERS
Dartmouth will have three sets of brothers dotting the roster this season. Senior Joe Gaudet welcomed younger brother Jim last year. In 2009-10 older brothers Connor Goggin and Nick Walsh will welcome younger siblings Mark and Dustin.
JODY OH
Last season, goalie Jody O'Neill was named both the Ivy League and the ECAC's Rookie of the year. The first time Dartmouth has had a player earn both honors since Hugh Jessiman in 2003.
EXHIBITION OPENERS
Dartmouth made its first appearance on Thompson Arena ice on Oct. 24 against McGill University in an exhibition. McGill skated away with a 7-4 victory as junior Adam Estoclet potted two goals while freshmen Mike Keenan and Mark Goggin scored the other two.
SEASON OPENERS
Dartmouth opened up the 2009-10 season in the friendly confines of Thompson Arena. Despite scoring the first goal of the game, Harvard came back to take the opening season victory. Dartmouth is now 67-31-3 in home openers and is 31-22-2 when opening up on the road. Under the tutelage of Bob Gaudet, the Big Green has gone 6-7 in the first game of the year.
FIRST IN AWHILE
Dartmouth's win at Harvard on Nov. 29 was the Big Green's first in Cambridge since the 1995-96 season. It's just the fifth time a Coach Gaudet squad has defeated the Crimson.
HARVARD 10/30/09
Dartmouth got on the board first off a goal by Rob Smith before Harvard tied the game in the second and potted four more before the Big Green's Adam Estoclet and Joe Gaudet tried to make it game.
CORNELL 11/6/09
The Big Red potted single goals in the first and second periods before blanking the Big Green with two more to start the third. Dartmouth's Peter Boldt got his team on the board in the third.
COLGATE 11/7/09
The Raiders scored two goals in the second before two Big Green rookies tied the score as Dustin Walsh and Mark Goggin recorded their collegiate firsts. Colgate was able to break the tie with the game winner towards the end of the game.
PROVIDENCE 11/27
Dartmouth scored two goals in the second and two more in the third to ice a 4-2 victory over Providence in the Big Green's first non-conference win of the season. Scott Fleming scored twice while Josh Gillam and Matt Reber had the other two goals. Jody O'Neill recorded 45 saves in the win, picking up the win.
HARVARD 11/29
With two goals in each of the three periods, Dartmouth put up the most number of points in a game this season, drubbing Harvard, 6-2. Scoring was spread out as Scott Fleming had two goals while Dustin Walsh, Evan Stephens, Adam Estoclet and Josh Gillam each chipped in one. The win was Dartmouth's first at Harvard since 1995-96.
SACRED HEART 12/13
Kyle Reeds potted the first goal of the game, just 1:13 into the first period but it was not enough as Sacred Heart roared back and scored the next four to carry a 4-1 lead going into the first break. Despite outshooting the Pioneers over the next two stanzas, Dartmouth was unable to get any more goals, falling to SHU at home.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Senior defenseman Peter Boldt is the 2009-10 Big Green captain. He will be the 118th captain in Dartmouth men's hockey history. Classmate Joe Gaudet and junior Scott Fleming will serve as assistant captains.
WELCOME ABOARD
Dartmouth welcomes six freshmen to the roster this season, as four forwards, one defenseman and a goalie join the Big Green. Two members of the group have already been drafted by an NHL team as Mark Goggin was taken by Boston in 2008 and Dustin Walsh was drafted by Montreal in 2009.
