CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Big Green women's crew team raced in three Third-Level Final races on the final day of the 2009 NCAA Rowing Championships. The varsity Eight boat finished second while the Second Varsity and Varsity Four boats both raced to fourth-place finishes.
The Varsity Eight boat took the lead at the 1000-meter mark with Harvard trailing the Big Green by nearly one second. Dartmouth could not hold off the Crimson in the last half of the race as Harvard over took the lead in the final 500-meters on its way to victory in 6:24.9. Dartmouth was able to hold off Oregon State for second with a time of 6:27.16, one second ahead of the Beavers.
Dartmouth's Varsity Four and Second Varsity boats did not have as good a finish as the Varsity Eight, each finishing fourth in their Third-Level Finals. The Big Green Varsity Four boat fell behind early and was unable to keep pace, crossing the finish with a time of 7:47.15, 13 seconds behind Oregon State for third place. Michigan State won the final in 7:29.71
The Big Green finished the first 1000-meters of the Second Varsity boat in third place, trailing first-place Wisconsin by two-and-a-half seconds. Like the Varsity Four boat though, Dartmouth could not keep pace and crossed the finish in 6:57.69. The Badgers (6:44.96) cruised to a win after leading for the duration of the race.
