HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's and women's tennis teams were both recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the Big Green earned a spot on the All-Academic Team list.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2008 and spring 2009).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria. They must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
Along with the team earning All-Academic status, the Big Green women's team had five members that became ITA Scholar-Athletes. The athletes were senior Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.), senior Jamie Caplan (Oakton, Va.), junior Carley Markovitz (South Pasadena, Calif.), junior Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) and senior Julia Zak (Bernardsville, N.J.).
The men saw eight of its team members make the list as sophomore David Fink (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.), senior Jeffrey Friedman (Westport, Conn.), senior Ari Gayer (Hollis, N.Y.), junior Stephen Greif (San Antonio, Texas), senior Andrew Kim (Richmond, Va.), sophomore David Orbuch (New York, N.Y.), junior Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Billy Strunk (Cincinnati, Ohio) all earned recognition for their efforts in the classroom.
