FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Dartmouth freshman Peter Williamson fired an even-par 70 in the third and final round of The McLaughlin hosted by St. John's as the Big Green maintained its spot in seventh place in the 18-team tournament with a 25-over par 865. Williamson, a native of Hanover, N.H., and the defending Ivy League champion, was the highest finisher for Dartmouth in a tie for 21st place at five-over par (215).
Another New Hampshire native, freshman James Pleat of Nashua, and sophomore Davis Mullany were each one stroke behind Williamson to tie for 26th place. Pleat shot a one-over 71 today for his best round of the tournament, while Mullany carded a 74.
Sophomore Teddy Overton posted the other score that counted toward the team tally with a 75, while senior Dave Putney shot a 76. Putney did finish the tournament tied for 49th at 10-over par, while Overton tied for 68th.
Coastal Carolina overcame a slim one-stroke deficit heading into the final round to edge UNC Wilmington by four strokes with a five-under-par 835 for the team title. The Chanticleers were the lone squad to shoot under par on the final day at two-under 278. Of the three Ivy League schools, Harvard finished seven strokes ahead of the Big Green, but Princeton was four strokes behind Dartmouth.
Tying for medalist honors were Greg Shuman of Harvard, Nyasha Mauchaza of Towson and Sam Lyons of Coastal Carolina. Lyons had the low round of the day with a 67, making up five strokes to tie for the lead.
The Big Green will host the Dartmouth Invitational next weekend, beginning on Saturday at the Hanover Country Club at 8 a.m.
